Amity Honor Roll Committee
A few years back the town purchased an acre of land attached to the existing town lot going south. The town purchased this for a possible future addition to the town office and to move the Veterans Honor Roll out of the Cemetery.
The Select Board appointed a committee at the beginning of the year 2024. The committee was tasked with moving the existing Honor Roll to the new lot.
The committee received some new information, some from the Select Board, a local citizen and some from a local Veteran raising some issues for consideration. We had discovered there were some missed spelled names. missing names, and possibly names that shouldn't be there. The current stone is often overlooked as it looks like just another gravestone.
After taking all these things into consideration during our discussions of how to best fix this; it was unanimously decide the only proper thing to do is to replace the old stone with a new larger stone with all the names on one side of the stone.
It is for these reasons we have decided to replace the stone with a very nice Honor Roll to Honor our beloved Veterans. This Honor Roll will be placed at the Town Office Complex on this new lot. We will be taking the time needed to try to ensure all mistakes are corrected, no new mistakes are made and we have an impressive Honor Roll we all can be very proud of. We owe our Veterans no less.
The criteria to be placed on the Honor Roll is:
- Born and/or brought up in Amity.
- Resident of Amity when entering the service.
- Have lived in Amity 40 or more years.
Please contact us using the link below if you know of anyone whose name is spelled incorrectly; anyone who should be on the Honor Roll, but isn't. Please be able to show proof with any confidential information redacted. We would like to list the Veterans by the war they served in or if they served during peace time. We would be very appreciative if you can supply this information on any of our Veterans to us.
Service categories:
- Pre World War One
- World War One
- World War Two
- Korean War
- Vietnam War
- Persian Gulf War
- Peace Time Service
Even if you aren't sure if they should or shouldn't be on the Honor Roll please contact us. We will look into it.
If anyone has a readable picture of the old Honor Roll that was in front of the church. We would greatly appreciated a copy of it as we may be able to gain some very useful information from it.
Thank you greatly for any information you are able to provide.
NOTE: I would like to add another Veteran to our committee if anyone is interested. Please contact us at the link below.
Respectfully submitted,
Larry Hamilton (Chairman)
